Some residents in the Tema-West Municipality have given Ms. Felicia Edem Attipoe, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the go-ahead to break all structures and buildings on sewer systems and lines in the area. They said this during an open forum at the public financial management town hall meeting at Tema Community Two Zonal Area, held at Good Shepherd Parish Hall by the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA). The residents complained that the existing condition of the sewer in their community was affecting their health and economic activities and urged the MCE and her team to remove all the structures. They alleged that their?Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members had not been proactive in dealing with the issues in the communities.? Prior to that, Ms. Attipoe called for a collective decision in dealing with structures on sewer systems after Mr. Kester Boateng, the Development Planning Officer of TWMA, did a presentation on developmental projects the assembly had undertaken and captured the repulsive n ature of faecal discharge in some communities in the municipality, especially Tema Community Two. The presentation also showed how overflow of human waste was sipping into people's rooms, backyards, and drains, in addition to people having manholes situated in their kitchens, halls, and bedrooms. Some shop owners had raised their containers with building blocks, paving the way for the faeces water to flow under the shop while they engaged in their trade business. The MCE cited an instance where a two-story building in Community Two had been constructed on the sewer system, and all efforts to know the owner had proved futile as the community members refused to cooperate with the Assembly. She lamented the rate at which Ghanaians had politicised everything and threatening to vote against the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for taking actions against issues that would affect the development of the municipality.?
