Anlo: Togbi Salu lll, Chief of Anlo-Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has marked 70 year milestone of his enstoolment on the Salu Royal stool. Togbi Salu, born on January 13, 1950 at Anlo Afiadenyigba, was enstooled on 28th March, 1954, when he was four years and two months old. Togbi Salu, in a speech delivered during the 70th anniversary at a proposed Salu palace ground in Anlo-Afiadenyigba, expressed gratitude and joy over the celebration. 'Ebenezer, this is how far the Good Lord has brought me. With great joy and humility, l stand to mark 70 years on the stool, it has been a long, daunting, eventful and interesting journey, which l started when l was four years and two months old,' he stated. Togbi Salu further expressed sincere appreciation to 'Agbotadua' Amegavi Klinogo of blessed memory, who was charged by Togbi Sri ll to act and hold the fort for him until he became a full grown person to execute the role creditably. He used the opportunity to appeal to all chiefs to ende avour to live in peace with one another since many chieftaincy titles seemed to be driven more by self-aggrandizement and self-elevation, rather than service and development to the people. He said bringing people and communities together should be the core mandate for chiefs, adding that chiefs must be the drivers of peace rather than division. 'I am aware that previously the town development planning council set up committee ostensibly to work to reconcile chiefs in the town. We cannot be chiefs and be at loggerheads with each other and expect our citizens to unite around us for meaningful development.' Togbi Salu , the oldest chief on Anlo land, pledged to live in peace with all other chiefs and to ensure that all chiefs live in harmony and work together for the betterment of the town as well as the entire Anlo Dukor in general. Togbi Agbeshie Awusu ll, the 'Awadada' of Anlo State, who was the chairman of the occasion, thanked Togbi Salu for his dedication in the various areas of development, which incl uded education, sports infrastructure among others in the community. He also urged all stakeholders, especially politicians to prioritise peace in the upcoming December elections. Togbi Kadzahlo Dravese IV, the Paramount Chief of Anlo-Afiadenyigba Traditional Area, who also witnessed the occasion urged other chiefs not to be custodians of the land and culture alone but champion the development as well as being stewards of social changes. The occasion was also used to introduce the newly enstooled Togbi Salu's Queenmother, Mama Biana Xormenyae and Agbotadua Seyram Klinogo to the chiefs of the Anlo land. The ceremony, which was characterised by beautiful Anlo cultural display by various cultural troupes was attended by chiefs, heads of institutions, assembly members, and others.
