Accra: Chance for Change (CfC), a committed NGO focused on keeping children off the streets, has launched an ambitious program to rescue approximately 4,500 street children across the nation. The initiative aims to provide these children with essential care and a safe home environment. According to Ghana News Agency, CfC has already established a residential facility in Accra to serve as a haven for children whose families cannot be located. This facility will provide shelter and support to these vulnerable children. In addition to housing, the organization plans to offer financial assistance to the parents of street children, enabling them to start businesses and better provide for their families. Mr. David Teye Zanyo, Kumasi branch Manager of CfC, announced that around 4,000 street children have already been rescued, receiving not only shelter but also education and training. Financial support has been extended to their parents, further aiding in their integration into society. During the 25th anniversary celebration of the Kumasi branch, Mr. Zanyo highlighted the positive impact of CfC's counseling, monitoring, and social services, noting that many rescued children are now leading meaningful lives and contributing to community development. Mr. Zanyo emphasized CfC's dedication to ensuring the safety, education, and health of street children, equipping them with necessary skills to secure employment and prevent their return to street life. In Kumasi alone, 402 children have been rescued, with 12 reunited with their families and others enrolled in school with financial backing. Miss Bernice Akakpo, a Social Welfare Worker with CfC, explained that the organization has devised Family and Community Strengthening Programs to identify and empower vulnerable community members, aiming to enhance their ability to care for their children effectively.
