Adaklu: Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure transparency in the electoral processes leading up to the December polls and beyond. He emphasized the importance of this transparency in consolidating the peace everyone is yearning for. Mr. Agbodza made these remarks at the Bliza (Corn festival) durbar attended by the chiefs and people of Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu district. According to Ghana News Agency, the Bliza festival, instituted in 1983 following a drought and famine, serves to honor corn for being the first foodstuff that ended the famine and to express gratitude for divine mercies. Over the years, the festival has evolved to unite the community and raise funds for development projects, establishing itself as a significant event in the Volta region. The theme for this year's festival was 'Peace, Love and Unity: Bedrock of Comprehensive Development.' Mr. Agbodza urged the people to transcend political affiliations and collab orate for the development of Adaklu, asserting, "without Adaklu, there will be no NDC or NPP." He commended the community for their numerous self-help projects and encouraged other communities to emulate their example. As the newly appointed Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, he also appealed to the Police to maintain professionalism during and after the elections. Mr. Bright Nyatsikor, the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for Adaklu, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the upcoming elections should not be viewed as a 'win at all costs' event, but rather as an opportunity for Ghana's victory. He stressed the importance of civil campaign messages, advocating for discourse focused on economic transformation and job creation, particularly for the youth. Togbe Dzegblade IV, the community chief, based his welcoming address on Habakkuk chapter two, advising the community to avoid actions that could incur divine displeasure and encouraging investment in the education of their children. Meanwhile, Mr. Matthew Wormenor, Chairman of the Bliza Planning Committee, announced that funds raised at the durbar would be used to complete a one-storey building information centre. Several attendees expressed their disappointment to Ghana News Agency over the absence of the Regional Minister and the Adaklu District Chief Executive at the event.
