Hohoe: A 29-year-old electrician, Samuel Ledi, also known as Corn Dealer, has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment by the Hohoe Circuit Court for stealing a lady's handbag containing GH?40,000. According to Ghana News Agency, Tsikata, another suspect involved in the case, is currently at large. The incident dates back to May 22, 2023, when the complainant, a trader at the Hohoe market, discovered her red bag, valued at GH?200 and containing GH?40,000, missing from under her table. The case was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of two suspects. During the investigation, Ledi approached the police, claiming to assist in apprehending Tsikata and another accomplice in Ashaiman. However, the search proved fruitless. Subsequent information led to Ledi's arrest on June 6, 2023, as suspicions grew regarding his involvement in the theft. Further developments revealed that Ledi, while in custody, confessed to a cellmate about orchestrating the theft, using the Ashaiman search as a diversion tactic . A 13-year-old witness also identified Ledi as the person who sent him to steal the complainant's bag. These revelations led to Ledi's formal charge and subsequent conviction after a full trial. The prosecution highlighted Ledi's previous conviction in 2021 for a similar offense, urging the court for a stringent penalty. As the legal proceedings concluded, the search for Tsikata continues, leaving one suspect still at large.
