Accra: The Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) of TUC-Ghana has declared its intention to commence an indefinite industrial action beginning Monday, November 18, unless the government addresses all outstanding issues related to its conditions of service. This announcement comes amidst ongoing frustrations over unresolved negotiations concerning the working conditions of various educational bodies in the country. According to Ghana News Agency, the union has expressed significant disappointment over the government's prolonged delay in finalizing, signing, and implementing the Conditions of Service for entities such as the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, along with Public Technical Universities and Public Universities. The union's grievances have been festering for years, with little resolution in sight despite numerous negotiation attempts. King James Azortibah, General Secretary of TEWU, highlighted these concerns in a statement circulated to the Ghana News Agency in Accra. The statement underscored the pressing issue of unresolved conditions of service for TEWU members, which has persisted for an extended period, creating uncertainty and dissatisfaction among the union's members. With the commencement of a new academic year and the ongoing admission processes for first-year students in Senior High Schools and other educational institutions, TEWU members are feeling the pressure of working under precarious conditions. The union's statement emphasized the urgency of finding a resolution, hoping for swift responses from relevant stakeholders to avert potential disruptions within the education sector.
