According to Ghana News Agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, the initiative will involve the traditional council engaging students from all Senior High Schools and youth camps within the traditional area to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace before, during, and after the 2024 elections. During the campaign launch at the Wa Senior High Technical School (WASECTECH) over the weekend, Naa Naatasung Jaafar Pelpuo, Chief of Biihee, representing the Wa Naa, highlighted the essential role peace plays in societal and national development. He urged the youth to abstain from activities that could disrupt national peace, as it is vital for their personal growth and achievement of their aspirations. Naa Pelpuo identified cheating, envy, and intolerance as catalysts for societal violence, urging the youth to avoid such behaviors. 'What you don't want people to do to you, don't also do to others; and that is how we can have peace,' he advised. Mr. Sulemana Mumuni, Executive Director of Y-PES Ghana, reinforced the importance of peace, urging the youth to focus on education as their main tool. He cited notable northern figures like Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former President John Mahama, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as examples of success through education. He encouraged the youth to respect diverse political and religious views as the election approaches and to accept election outcomes for the sake of Ghana's peace. Mr. Mumuni emphasized, 'If you believe in somebody's ideology, it does not mean you should force somebody to also believe in what you believe in. Allow people to believe in what they think is right. That is the basis of promoting peace.' Mr. Ismail Salih, Headmaster of WASECTECH, praised the Wa Naa for this initiative and suggested that other traditional leaders adopt similar campaigns to help maintain peace during the election season. He noted the potential for youth to be drawn into violence and stressed the importance of their commitment to peace to reduce such risks.
