Tunisia finished 3rd at the UFAK Karate Championships held from August 17 to 20 in Casablanca, Morocco, after winning 30 medals, including 5 gold. During this championship, Tunisian karate fighters in the "senior", "junior" and "cadet" categories won a total of 30 medals (5 gold, 7 silver and 18 bronze). The Tunisian gold medallists were Houssem Eddine Chweya (+84 kg), Wissal Ezzar (-68 kg) in the senior category, Iheb Ferchichi (-55 kg) in the junior category and Anas Ben Hassan (-57 kg) and Ali Rouached (+70 kg) in the cadet category. Host country Morocco topped the medal table with 17 gold medals, followed by Egypt (14 gold medals). The competition is held under the auspices of the World Karate Federation (WKF) and brings together the best karate fighters on the African continent. Several meetings of the executive committee of the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) were held on the sidelines of this championship, as well as a general assembly of the countries of the North Africa zone, during which the president of the FRMKDA, Mohamed Moktabil, was elected head of this regional body. More than 1,000 athletes, coaches, technical staff, referees and committee members from over 27 countries took part in the 2023 event.
