The AFREECAN association, in partnership with United Gulf Financial Services-North Africa, is organising a marathon on September 17 at Lac 1 to raise public awareness of the dangers of dropping out of school. Anis Mabrouki, the event organiser in charge of logistics, told TAP the marathon will be open to participants aged 12 and over, who will run three distances: 10, 5 and 1.5km, adding that medals will be awarded to the winners. "The proceeds from this event will go to one of the primary schools in the Greater Tunis Governorate to build a sports court for the school's students," he said. He pointed out that the aim of this event is to help revamp a greater number of schools, as the deterioration of school infrastructure and transport difficulties are behind school drop-out rates. The organisers of this first event raised the sum of 30,000 dinars, which will be used to renovate a computer room for the pupils of the Sejnane primary school (Bizerte governorate).
