Takoradi: Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV, the Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove, affirmed that the tradition of honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the Western Region continues with the erection of a statue for President Akufo-Addo. The statue, located at the Effia-Nkwanta roundabout, acknowledges the President's developmental efforts in the region. According to Ghana News Agency, Obrempong Dekyi clarified that the unveiling of the statue was conducted by Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, along with other esteemed chiefs, and not by President Akufo-Addo himself. This clarification comes amid criticisms surrounding the statue's unveiling. Obrempong Dekyi highlighted that the Akufo-Addo administration has been pivotal in implementing numerous projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and public services in the Western Region. Key projects include the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a three-tier inter change in Takoradi, the resurfacing of the Tarkwa-Takoradi road, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market, all of which are nearing completion. Additionally, projects such as the mini-harbour in Enzlinbo, Agenda 111, and a fishing harbour in Axim have been noted as part of the President's contributions to the region. Obrempong Dekyi emphasized the transformative impact these projects have had over the past seven years, justifying the statue's commissioning as a tribute to President Akufo-Addo's efforts. He also mentioned that several streets have been named after notable individuals, including Animens, Bus-Kwofie, Paa Grant, and Master Cudjoe of the GSTS, showcasing the region's tradition of honoring contributors to its development. Obrempong Dekyi called upon Ghanaians to maintain a balanced perspective in their assessments, urging unity in upholding democratic values and preserving peace in the country.
