The Bardo National Museum, which has been closed since July 25, 2021, will reopen on September 14, with opening hours from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, the Ministry of Culture announced in a statement on Monday. The ministry said that "new spaces have been created in the Bardo National Museum where archaeological and artistic artefacts, including mosaic paintings and marble sculptures, will be displayed for the first time after their restoration and maintenance". The prestigious museum, located in the Bardo neighbourhood of Tunis, was renovated and expanded between 2009 and 2012. After being closed for almost four years, the museum reopened to the public on July 25, 2012 during the Republic Day celebrations. Founded on May 7, 1888, the Bardo National Museum is one of the most important museums in the Mediterranean and the second largest in Africa after the Cairo Museum. The museum houses an extensive collection of Roman mosaics, considered the most prestigious in the world, as well as Hellenistic bronze and marble ob jects from underwater excavations off the coast of Mahdia in the early 20th century.
