Basic ‘4’ pupil receives support for eye surgery

The La-Dadekotopon Municipal Education Directorate has presented a cash amount of GHS11,000 to support Master Joshua Obodai Torgbor, a nine-year-old Basic '4' pupil of African Unity Basic at La in Accra who underwent eye surgery at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The amount was realized from contributions from learners from all Basic Schools across the municipality as a show of solidarity and empathy for the boy who has suffered a cancerous eye condition. Madam Habiiba Kotoma, the Municipal Director of Education who made the presentation said the thoughts and hearts of the whole school community in the municipality were behind the boy as he underwent treatment for which reason they have raised funds to support him. She sympathized with the boy who had gone through the unfortunate condition at his tender age. She said she was of the firm belief that he would make a stable comeback in due course to continue his education. 'We'll continue to remember you in our prayers,' Madam Kotoma said Madam Kotoma urged th e mother of the boy to monitor his situation closely and promptly report to the hospital if any unusual situation was discovered following the operation while admonishing her not to hesitate to inform the Education Directorate of any recurrent cost. She described the boy as smart and bubbly pupil who exhibited traits of one with a bright future. Madam Patience Mensah, the mother of the boy, who received the donation expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the son's surgery and that the support was timely due to the continuous treatment cost. According to her, the son had the eye problem two years ago after a football they were playing with at school hit the eye severely and he had to go through several tests and treatments. Madam Lydia Osei, the Headmistress of the Africa Unity Basic School said she was touched by the boy's condition and took him to the to the Municipal Director of Education who readily communicated to the administrators of the various schools in the area for funds to be raised amon g pupils and staff alike to assist. She appealed to well-meaning and benevolent individuals and pupils to bear up the boy in prayers. Source: Ghana News Agency
