Date production for the 2023-2024 season in the Tozeur region is estimated at over 69,000 tonnes, the governor of Tozeur told TAP.
As part of the preparations for the start of the date harvest, a set of meetings were held at the governorate headquarters with a view to finding solutions to the problems encountered by professionals in the sector in terms of product quality and improving competitiveness on the international markets.
The Ministry of Agriculture has in this regard, taken a number of measures to help farmers, such as offering seasonal loans through the BTS, organising a series of trade fairs and opening up new promotional channels in commercial areas.
The governorate of Tozeur accounts for 21% of the national date export volume and counts 24 export units offering 6,500 jobs.
