Doctors Revel in Volta Region During 66th Annual Ghana Medical Association Conference.

According to Ghana News Agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Kweku Appiagyei, Chairman of the Volta Division of the Association, received loud cheers and applause as he strode across the podium of the UHAS Cedi Auditorium to deliver his speech at the opening of the conference. The Master of Ceremonies praised him for delivering a memorable experience. The annual general conference, for the first time, was held as a week-long event, offering an opportunity for the Volta Region to showcase its tourism appeal. Volta is known as a hub of tourist experiences in Ghana, and the doctors took the opportunity to unwind. The region, known for its numerous waterfalls and secluded peaks, welcomed the medical professionals who explored these attractions with support from the Regional Minister, the initiator of the 'Visit Volta, Experience Ghana' campaign. More than 600 members had arrived in the region by Monday, marking an unprecedented turnout for the conference. The GNA reported some attendees experienced joint pains from the adventurous activities, including the Amedzofe canopy walkway, Wli Waterfalls in Hohoe, and climbing Ghana's highest mountain, Afadjato. Some caravans explored the southern route, reaching the beaches as far as neighboring Togo. In the evenings, fun continued with cocktail nights in various hotels, celebrating the hard work of the medical professionals. The conference sessions on Friday and Saturday saw a large turnout, with the UHAS Auditorium and its vicinity bustling with medical and pharmaceutical companies showcasing products and services at an exhibition. Dr. Appiagyei noted the significant economic impact on the Volta Region, stating the money spent was more than what was taken out of the attendees' pockets by the conference. Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, welcomed the attendees and hosted a cocktail dinner in their honor. Dr. Julius Patamia, Regional Secretary of the Association, highlighted the focus on mental health at this year's conference, noting it had th e highest patronage so far. Dr. Frank Serebour, President of the Association, expressed satisfaction with the event, mentioning the potential for future visits to unseen tourist sites like the breast mountain. Some members purchased branded Visit Volta t-shirts as souvenirs. Dr. Oko Boye, the Health Minister, announced the purchase of four plots of prime land at the Ho Airport for the Association and pledged support for developing a multi-purpose center. The conference, themed 'Fostering Technology, Entrepreneurship and Professionalism in Ghana's Health Sector,' featured a notable business session as one of its main highlights.
