Effia-Kwesimintsim: The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western Region organized a debate for Parliamentary Candidates (PC) in the Kwesimintsim Constituency to outline their development plans for the area. The debate provided a platform for candidates to address development issues concerning the constituency and to share their plans if elected as Member of Parliament (MP). According to Ghana News Agency, the candidates who participated in the debate included Mr. Philip Fiifi Buckman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mr. Joseph Mensah, an Independent Candidate. Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) PC and incumbent MP, did not attend the event. The debate focused on critical issues such as education, employment, health, roads and infrastructure, and the economy. Mr. Buckman proposed expanding the educational infrastructure to improve academic performance, while Mr. Mensah pledged to ensure adequate teaching mat erials in every school. On employment, Mr. Buckman emphasized promoting local content by ensuring that 70 percent of the labor force for government projects would come from the constituency. Mr. Mensah aimed to support the informal sector to create more job opportunities for the youth. In terms of healthcare, Mr. Buckman planned to advocate for a new hospital and enhance existing health facilities, whereas Mr. Mensah promised to collaborate with authorities to improve access to quality healthcare. Both candidates also addressed other local development issues, committing to resolve them if elected. Mrs. Kathleen Addy, Chairperson for the NCCE, stated that the event was designed to allow citizens to evaluate candidates' visions and programs, helping them make informed decisions during elections. Mr. Justice Yaw Ennin, the Western Regional Director of NCCE, highlighted the debate as part of the NCCE's mandate to promote democratic governance and enable voters to scrutinize candidates' policies. The event was attended by traditional and religious leaders, political party supporters, and security personnel, among others.
