Accra: Fire Tuesday morning, about 0945 hours, gutted parts of the Job 600 Building in Parliament House Accra. The Job 600 Building is an annex to the Chamber of Parliament, and it houses the offices of the Members of Parliament. Although the exact cause of the fire is unknown, it caused damage to a storeroom. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to determine the cause and extent of the damage. The Ghana News Agency saw thick smoke coming from some offices, with Ghana National Fire Service personnel attempting to extinguish the fire. Staff and workers in the Job 600 Building were quickly evacuated to designated assembly points as emergency services worked to put out the fire. ACFO 1 Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Fire Service, told the media in Parliament House that her team was working to contain the fire so that it would not spread to other rooms. She confirmed that there had been no casualties so far and that the situation was under control. ACFO 1 Ghanson s aid: 'Around 0945 hours we received a distress call and in less than five minutes our appliance was here. What we are seeing now is a fire that has affected one of the rooms. It is like a storeroom because we have some storage items there. 'So, our aim now is to get the fire confined. After the fire is confined, we know how to extinguish it. But the most important thing for us now is to confine the fire so that it doesn't travel to other unaffected rooms.' 'If we knew what caused the fire then it would be after our firefighting. But at the moment, the situation is very calm, and everybody should put their heart at rest,' she added. Source: Ghana News Agency
