Interior Minister Kamel Feki met on Thursday in Tunis with his Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of a number of senior officials from both sides. The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest between the Ministries of Interior of the two countries and aspects of bilateral cooperation in a number of fields, mainly related to the fight against organised crime and irregular migration, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior. They also examined ways of strengthening the prospects for cooperation through the activation of joint programmes related to border security, criminal laboratories and civil protection, the exchange of experience and intelligence. Both sides agreed on joint proposals to find solutions with economic, social and developmental dimensions to the phenomenon of irregular migration. As part of bilateral cooperation, an agreement on mutual assistance in the event of disasters or accidents was signed at the Tunisian National School of Civil Protection in Jebel Jloud. It relates to the areas of intervention of rescue teams, the exchange of experience and training. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Austrian Ambassador to Tunisia, the Director General of Civil Protection and a number of senior officials from the Ministries of Interior of both countries, as well as all the heads of the central civil protection units.
