Residents at Kweikuma in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region have expressed concern about the poor nature of roads in the community. Some of them, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, complained about the rough and dusty nature of the road that posed health risk to them. Madam Cecilia Nyameke-Adom, a resident, told the GNA that the road was usually muddy and slippery when it rained, hindering daily activities. She explained that some drivers who plied that area had taken advantage of the situation and charged commuters high fares. 'Because some drivers refuse to take us to our various destinations inside the community, we have no other choice than to alight at the Kweikuma junction and continue our journey on foot', she lamented. Mr George Achia, a taxi driver, who plied the road said he frequently visited the mechanic shop to get his vehicle fixed as it broke down almost all the time. Madam Aba Abbew, a hair-dresser, said residents living in Kweikuma were also Gh anaians and deserved good roads. Mr Bukari Kyere, the Assembly Member of the area, responding to concerns, said he would lead a resource mobilisation drive to temporarily reshape some of the deplorable roads within the community. He assured the residents of a collaborative team work with the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) to come to their aid under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) initiative to put the roads within the community in good shape.
