The Ministry of the Family, Children and Seniors has approved the financing of 40 projects in Kasserine, Sousse, Monastir, Ben Arous, Manouba, Kébili and Sfax as part of the "Samida" programme, at a cost of around 520,000 dinars, the Ministry said in a press release. Chairing a meeting on Monday of the steering committee of the "Samida" programme for the economic empowerment of women who are victims of violence or at risk of violence, Minister of Family, Amel Belhaj Moussa said regional committees in the aforementioned governorates had submitted 69 applications to the steering committee, of which 40 had been accepted. She said that the approved projects were mainly in the following sectors: information technology, creation of nurseries, small agricultural projects, confectionery, hairdressing and beauty, and the sale of food products, with funding ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 dinars, depending on the nature of the project. The Ministry for the Family has earmarked around one million dinars for the 'Samida' programme, which enables women victims of violence to set up small projects to help them achieve financial independence. This programme aims to empower women victims of violence economically by providing them with vocational training and the equipment they need to launch their projects, with funding ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 dinars, depending on the value of the project. It should be noted that the Samida programme, the first of its kind at national level and in the Arab world, was launched by the Ministry of the Family on March 7, 2023, International Women's Day, as part of efforts to strengthen the social role of the State in favour of the most vulnerable groups.
