Tamale: Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, Northern Regional Minister, has inaugurated an ultramodern zonal office complex for the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project in Tamale. The office building, which includes various offices such as information and technology, engineering, and a kitchen, is designed to serve all eight beneficiary districts of the project: Tamale, Sagnarigu, Nanumba North, Saboba, Tatali-Sangule, Gushegu, Yendi, and Karaga. According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Saibu, speaking during the inauguration, emphasized the SOCO project's significant role in enhancing the livelihoods of the local population. He noted that the establishment of the office was timely and would facilitate the smooth implementation of the project. SOCO is a five-year initiative funded by the World Bank, aimed at bolstering the social and economic resilience of the Northern Region of the Gulf of Guinea countries. The project is being implemented across six regions, including Northern, Upper East , Upper West, North East, Savannah, and Oti. Its goals include strengthening local institutions, increasing economic opportunities, preventing conflicts from the Sahel from spreading, and reducing vulnerability to climate change. Alhaji Saibu highlighted the importance of providing a conducive working environment for the staff to enable them to work diligently towards achieving the project's objectives. He expressed optimism that the new office space would motivate the management to work harder to meet the project's goals within the stipulated timeframe. Mr. Samuel Forson, Tamale Zonal Coordinator of the SOCO Project, who received the keys to the facility, praised all stakeholders involved in the project's implementation. He remarked that the office would enhance the project's administration and ultimately improve the livelihoods of the communities it serves.
