The International Organisation for the Protection of Mediterranean Children (French: OIPEM) called on the state to fully assume its responsibilities in order to avoid "the deterioration of the education system in Tunisia", after the decision of the education unions to continue withholding grades, stressing that the right to education is guaranteed by the constitution.

It said in a statement issued on Friday that the Ministry of Education "has failed to manage the crisis," recalling that President Kais Saied had called on March 23 for the need to resolve this issue and initiate a reform of the education system.

In this context, OIPEM warned against the use of the mechanism of automatic class change, decided during the 2014-2015 school year, which has had negative repercussions on school performance.

It called on all parties involved, government and trade unions, to put the best interests of the students, who constitute "the real wealth of the country", first.
