Passenger traffic via Tunisian airports posts 25.3% increase until end September 2023

Air passenger traffic through Tunisian airports increased by 25.3% during the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The number of passenger movements reached 6,808,160, according to statistics published on Tuesday by the Office of Civil Aviation and Airports (OACA). This upward trend affected traffic at most Tunisian airports, with rises of 23.4% at Tunis Carthage International Airport (5,069,934 movements), 30.3% at Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (1,593,372 movements), 50.2% at Sfax-Thyna International Airport (129,113 movements) and 22.7% at Gabès-Matmata International Airport (3,232 movements). On the other hand, traffic fell by 16.7% at Tozeur-Nefta International Airport (9,932 movements) and by 7.3% at Tabarka-Ain Draham International Airport (2,057 movements). OACA statistics also show an 18.21% increase in commercial traffic (aircraft movements) in the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, with 57,574 aircraft movements recorded. In terms of aircraft traffic, the increase was 20.4% for Tunis Carthage International Airport (42,207 movements), 17.3% for Djerba-Zarzis International Airport (12,019 movements), 0.7% for Sfax-Thyna International Airport (2,847 movements) and 9.1% for Gabès-Matmata International Airport (144 movements). However, the number of movements fell by 13.1% at Tozeur Nefta International Airport (213 movements) and by 28.8% at Tabarka-Ain Draham International Airport (141 movements). Overflights (aircraft crossing Tunisian airspace) reached 39,323 movements in the first nine months of 2023, up 44.9% compared to the same period in 2022.
