Social Affairs Minister and UN Resident Coordinator in Tunis discuss social protection and inclusion strategies

Cooperation in the field of social protection and the economic and social integration of persons with disabilities as well as combating poverty and promoting social dialogue were the focus of a meeting, Monday, between Social Affairs Minister Malek Ezzahi and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunis Arnaud Peral. The meeting, which was attended by President of the General Committee of Social Promotion Ibrahim Ben Driss and Director General of the International Cooperation and External Relations Department Feriel Ghrab, shed light on cooperation programmes and projects between the Social Affairs Ministry and the UN bodies. The UN Resident Coordinator expressed his organisation's readiness to promote these projects and programmes, particularly those focusing on the Employment and Youth Fund, which was created in June 2023 and seeks to increase job opportunities for young people. The Social Affairs Minister called for speeding up the implementation of cooperation programmes between the ministry and the various UN bodies, laying emphasis on economic empowerment programmes in generating sources of income for poor families. Ezzahi also reviewed the national strategy for the empowerment of persons with disabilities, reiterating the key role of the International Center for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in special education as part of boosting cooperation with associations active in this field.
