Three persons, including a three-year-old child and the mother, have lost their lives in a fatal accident that occurred at Poyentanga, a community in the Wa West District, along the Wa-Sawla highway. They were on board a Ssangyong mini-bus with registration number AS-9788-22 on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, travelling from Charikpong in the Nadowli-Kaleo District towards Techiman. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Paul Buabeng Donkor, the Upper West Regional Commander, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday, said the accident occurred at about 1230 hours. He said two people died on the spot after they fell off the vehicle and it ran over them, while the third person died on Wednesday at about 0300 hours while receiving treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital. He said the remaining 11 passengers and the driver were receiving medical attention at the Upper West Regional Hospital. ASP Donkor said there were 16 people includin g the driver in the vehicle and upon reaching Poyentanga it had a tyre burst causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle resulting in the accident. He said the vehicle's main passenger door fell off in the process, increasing the accident's severity. The Police MTTD Commander said all the deceased persons were from one family and postmortem had been conducted on the bodies and released to their families for burial. Source: Ghana News Agency
