Tragic Crash Kills Eight, Including Mourners on the Sunyani-Berekum Highway.

Sunyani: Some mourners who were returning from a funeral died in a tragic crash on the Berekum-Sunyani highway in the Bono Region. They were among the eight people who were confirmed dead in the crash which happened at the Amanfoso portion of the highway on Saturday, November 2, 2024, around 1430 hours. According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Abigail Atinpoka, the Bono Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), confirmed the fatalities, stating that the bodies, including five males and three females, had since been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital mortuary. In an interview, she detailed that the crash involved a Toyota Corolla Taxicab with registration number AS 4819-17 and a private vehicle with registration number GN 5753-12. Madam Atinpoka explained that the crash reportedly occurred when the driver of the private vehicle, carrying the mourners and traveling from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Sunyani, lost control and veered into the lane of the oncoming taxicab. The victims were subseque ntly rushed to the Berekum Holy Family and Sunyani Teaching Hospitals. She noted that the only two survivors of the crash were in critical condition.
