Madam Joyce Datsa, the Volta Regional Sports Director, on Tuesday announced that the region is making efforts to participate in the upcoming All Regional Games in Accra this November, despite facing financial challenges. The All Regional Games, organised by Asamoah Gyan, former Captain of Black Stars and a businessman and with other partners, aimed to host 188 athletes and their officials from each region, competing in nine disciplines. Speaking at the second meeting of the Volta Regional Local Organizing Committee of the All Regional Games in Ho on August 6, Madam Datsa highlighted the significance of the event. 'The games would provide participants with the opportunity to showcase their talents to scouts and the world,' she said. She encouraged individuals to register and participate, emphasizing that registration was mandatory to compete. Madam Datsa outlined the age limit for participants, noting that the football age limit is from 18 to 23 years, while other disciplines have no age restrictions . She stressed that the registration fee of GHC30 should not deter anyone from participating. 'The region needs the numbers because all registered participants will undergo a selection process before the final team is chosen,' she added. She also appealed to prominent individuals, NGOs, and other organizations to provide funds and logistics to support the athletes' registration and preparation for the selection process and the main tournament in November. Currently, data revealed to the Local Organizing Committee shows that only 23 athletes have registered, comprising 20 males and 3 females. Members at the meeting attributed the low registration to the ongoing WASSCE examinations and the registration fee. Many potential participants are also relying on the Second Cycle Sports Festivals for their selection. The All Regional Games, launched in Kumasi on July 6, would feature 188 athletes and their officials from each of the 16 regions in the country. The athletes would compete in nine disciplines : Football, Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Boxing, Arm Wrestling, and Para-Athletics. Source: Ghana News Agency
